Welcome back to our 4th Term of 2022, a term that usually brings a lot of fun and anticipation for the children (and adults) as we approach Christmas. We have quite a few events this term so please refer to the ‘Upcoming Events’ and diarise those that are relevant for you and your family. We hope to see parents at as many events as possible and we would love a team of parents to help us to put up our big Christmas Tree and decorations on Monday 7 November. 

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH MONTH

This month is World Mental Health Month and this year’s World Mental Health Day campaign is encouraging everyone to make a promise to “Look after your mental health, Australia.” In 2022, the focus of our annual campaign is awareness, belonging and connection. Next Monday is World Mental Health Day, and we encourage everyone to stop and consider how you are building and maintaining positive mental health practices in your daily routine. UNIFORMS

Over the next 2 weeks the students will be able to wear either their winter or summer uniform, then in Week 3, it will be summer uniforms for everyone. We would like to remind everyone that this is the last term of the transition to the new school uniforms, so it is the last term when the old uniforms are able to be worn. 

We hope you have all had time to rest and enjoy the spring weather (even though it has temporarily disappeared), and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school next week.

The Public Health Order was updated on 30 September in relation to self-isolation rules.

From 14 October 2022, it will no longer be mandatory to self-isolate at home if you test positive to COVID-19.

Until 14 October, you must continue to self-isolate if you test positive for COVID-19. Household and close contacts must follow the guidelines.

NSW Health strongly recommends people who are sick or have tested positive to COVID-19 stay home until their symptoms have gone.

We are waiting to receive further information from the NSW Association of Independent Schools (AISNSW) in relation to the change and will provide the school community with any updates as soon as we receive them.

We would like to remind parents that a full term’s notice in writing to the Principal is required before terminating a student's enrolment. The last day for notification is Monday 10 October.  In the event of failure to provide the required notice of withdrawal, a charge equal to 100% of the applicable term’s school fees will become payable, including all outstanding fees and charges, in addition to fees and charges payable in respect to the entire current term.

Claremont College Dads and Kids ‘BIG Day Out’ to Jamberoo  

Given that COVID robbed us of our 2021 Dads’ and Kids’ Camp, we have planned a Claremont College Dads and Kids ‘BIG Day Out’ with a trip to the Jamberoo Action Park on Saturday 12 November. While the exact details are yet to be confirmed, you will need to anticipate a full day.

Year 6 - Wednesday Sport - Let’s Go Surfing Waiver

On the back of our wonderful concert Mrs Yasmin Davis and Mr Thomas are pleased to invite you to a special Music Showcase on Tuesday 18 October from 4:30pm-6:00pm. The two years of COVID lockdowns certainly impacted music and performing arts programs in all schools, especially our band and small ensemble groups, so we are keen to bring back the array of wonderful sounds of children learning music in our school. ‘MUSIC@CLAREMONT’ will provide us with the opportunity to introduce our 8 tutors to you (Margaret Machamer - Cello & Senior String Ensemble, Dominique Guerbois - Violin & Junior String, Percy Reddy - Drums & Beginner Guitar, Carlson Luong - Piano, Sam Golding - Brass, Visnja Kosnaovic - Flute, Luke Galea - Guitar and Lyndell Pym - Singing), to showcase some of our student and tutor talent as well as presenting a panel which will discuss the many advantages of Music in a child’s learning and academic development. All parents and their children are welcome to attend. 

PE Lessons

Days for PE in Term 4 are as follows.

Students are to wear full sports uniform, including white socks and predominantly white shoes on these days.

This term each year group will be participating in the following sports.

Year 3 - Tennis @ Moore Park - bring own tennis racket if desired

Year 6 - Surfing @ Maroubra - see below for details

As part of their Sport program during Term 4, Year 6 will be participating in a surf lesson and surf safety awareness program at Maroubra Beach each week. Students will engage in a number of activities with qualified instructors throughout each session.

On Wednesday, students come to school in their full sports uniform, and wear their swimming costume under their sports uniform. They will need to take their Claremont Sports bag with them with towel, sunscreen, water bottle and underwear to change into after the activity. Wetsuits/rash shirts will be provided at the venue.

To participate, “Let’s Go Surfing” requires each participant to fill out a waiver. Please complete the online waiver form here by Tuesday 11 October.

Family Fun Night is back and coming up on Friday 28 October!

Year 6 and their parents will be running stalls including: Dunking the teacher, a photo booth, Hook-a-duck, cookie decoration, hair braiding, nail painting, glow products, face painting, basketball toss and Nerf shoot-outs. Dinner options include sausage sizzles or chicken and salad – with gelato for dessert! 

All children must be supervised by an adult and can not come unaccompanied. 

The ‘early bird discount’ is for online purchases only. 

Sausage sizzles and BBQ chicken & salad can also be preordered on Flexischools (On the night food options will also have a slight price increase)

Coupon prices are fixed and can be preordered on Flexischools to avoid queuing on the night or you can purchase them on the night using CASH or CARD.

Ordering

Orders can be placed for both recess and lunch through an online ordering system called Flexischools (www.flexischools.com.au). You can also download the app and order from any smartphone or tablet device. Orders are required to be placed by 8.30am on the day the order is required, however, you can place orders up to four weeks in advance.

A reminder for ALL families to book and/or verify their bookings for Term 4. Also, if your child is away or will not be attending a pre-booked session, please assist by contacting Customer Service to cancel your booking on the day. Please note this has an impact on the service’s staffing for each session.

We would like to make you aware that the NSW Government has given parents a $500 voucher to use at childcare centres. This is applicable to TeamKids and we encourage you to take advantage of this great scheme. Follow the instructions on the NSW Service website to apply. Then email or bring in the QR code on your voucher so we can scan and redeem it for you. This will be credited to your account to use until June 2023.
