The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
Whether you are a Monarchist or not, one cannot help but be impressed by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth’s enormous, unwavering contribution to the people of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth of Nations, and the world. Her Platinum Jubilee Celebrations last weekend were a huge celebration, and an outpouring of love and gratitude for Her Majesty’s service to her people for 70 years.
School Open Day
This week we had our first Open Day in many years, and it was a really refreshing occasion; not just because it was a cool 16° but also because we enjoyed welcoming people into our school. We were happy to have been able to showcase our beautiful learning spaces and collaborative teaching to a number of prospective parents, and we were also able to share what is happening around the school with current parents.
Across the day visitors and parents got to see reading groups, Mathematics groups, phonics groups, writing, PE, Indonesian, Music, Library Literature, STEM problem solving, History, Visual Art, grammar lessons, Art Appreciation, Pastoral Care Groups preparation, handwriting, Scripture, spelling and health lessons, and they also saw staff team planning sessions – there is a lot to appreciate in the daily life of a school.
Collaborative Teaching Parent Workshop
Next Term on 4 August we will be inviting parents to join us for an afternoon workshop followed by a walk-around to witness collaborative teaching in action.
Time: 1pm – 3pm
Venue: School Hall followed by a walk-around the learning spaces.
To register your interest in joining us for this workshop, please do so by following the LINK.
Book Week 2022: Remembering the Olden Days Through Books and Stories
This year our School Concert clashes with Book Week, because of the date we could secure Angel Place Recital Hall, so we have decided to celebrate Book Week in the last week of Term 3. Therefore, on Friday 23 September we will be having our annual Book Week Parade. Our theme for this year will link to our 140th year: 'Remembering the Olden Days Through Books and Stories'. We will be asking the students and staff to choose a favourite book, dress up as a character from the book, and this year identify which decade the book comes from. We will send out more details of the day during Term 3, however for now, keep the day free and start thinking creatively about characters, preferably from ‘the olden days’.
For example, did you know:
- Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was written in 1865-6
- Little Women was written in 1868-9
- The Adventures of Pinocchio was written in 1883
- The Wizard of Oz was written in 1900
- Treasure Island was written in 1911, and
- The Story of Doctor Dolittle was written in 1920
We are going to have some fun with costumes from the stories written in the olden days!
School Reports
Next Friday, the Semester 1 School Reports will be available online.
The aim of our School Report is to communicate with you, your child's individual progress in all aspects of school life, thus promoting discussion and cooperation between home and school. The report has been designed to reflect individual application and achievement based upon monitoring of tasks and work submitted, assessments and other set tasks for the semester.
To assist in your understanding of this report, please refer to the Key that is shown on Page 2 of the report. Kindergarten students are assessed using a three-grade scale which indicates their level of understanding of the content taught and their application of the knowledge or skills for each Key Learning Area. Year 1 to Year 6 students are assessed using a five-grade scale which indicates their level of understanding of the content taught and their application of the knowledge or skills for each Key Learning Area.
Through our evaluation of application, achievement, dispositional development and involvement in learning, and through the written comments made by teachers, we hope that you feel well informed of your child's progress this semester. Please discuss this report with your child and encourage him or her with the progress that has been made.
Please remember that a child who received a ‘3’ for example, for a particular set of outcomes in Semester 1, 2021, then received a ‘3’ for the same particular set of outcomes in Semester 1, 2022, then the child has demonstrated 12 months of growth in that particular set of outcomes.
It has been our pleasure to support your child's learning this semester, to provide them with a unique learner experience, to witness your child's many achievements and progress, and to be a part of their learning journey. We thank you for this opportunity.

Enjoy the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend
This weekend we get to enjoy a long weekend to recognise the Queen’s birthday. Her birthday was actually in April and she is 96 years old, bless her!
Blessed is the Eternal One, God of all humanity, who alone does wondrous things; Blessed is God’s glorious name forever, whose glory fills the whole world. Amen and Amen.
Psalm 72:18-19 (This was included in a prayer to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee)
