Warm Winter Woolies
Given the 'cold snap' this week, it was timely to hold a 'Warm Winter Woolies' Mufti Day to raise awareness and money for the homeless people in Sydney. Thank you to our Year 6 House Captain leaders for the organisation leading up to today, and thank you to the school community for your wonderful generosity. We were able to raise $621 for the Warm4Winter campaign, run by a charity group called ‘Kids Giving Back’. Today's Chapel talk also focused on helping others who are in need, and it served as a perfect opportunity to teach and encourage our students to demonstrate empathy and compassion for others.
Positive Behaviour
Over the course of this week and next, Mrs James (Acting Deputy Principal) and Miss McKersie (School Counsellor) have been working with the teachers in all grades (K-6) delivering 'Expectations of Behaviour' lessons. These lessons covered positive/expected behaviours such as displaying manners, showing respect, engaging in learning, encouraging others and helping others in need. The lessons also addressed unacceptable behaviours such as lying to a teacher, excluding and hurting others. The lessons also focussed on the qualities of a good friend.
This week the children also watched Brainstorm Productions perform a play about friendships, kindness, manners and anti-bullying messages. This engaging show always proves to be a worthwhile event. We ask that you have a conversation with your child/ren about what they have learnt, and to please reinforce these important messages with them. Thank you for your support.
Drop Off and Pick Up
A couple of years ago, we made a change from the arrival time of 8:30am to 8:15am, to allow parents a longer window of time to bring their children to school. Parent feedback was very positive, as this helped alleviate some pressure for parents who drop their children to school before heading to work/appointments. Recently, however, staff have noticed that there are many children who are arriving at school earlier than the 8:15am arrival time. Please be mindful that staff are unable to supervise your child before 8:15am. Teachers are expected to meet with their teaching teams before students arrive to school, and therefore will be busy in meetings. If you need to drop your child off before 8:15am, please make arrangements with TeamKids, our before school care program.
We have also noticed that some parents have been collecting their children on foot at the Judge St gate. As the Judge St gate is a more commonly used gate, we ask that this gate be used for car pick up only. If you would like to collect your child on foot, please arrange to have your child be collected from Coogee Bay Rd gate only. For safety reasons, please ensure you move on once you have collected your child. Staying around the front of the school increases the safety risk for our students. Thank you for your understanding.
Compassion - Empathy with Action
This is Christian.
Christian is compassionate.
When Christian found out that his friend George hurt his head, he was moved to tears, hugged George and said,
"I just couldn't bear it if I lost you!"
Christian is caring.
Be like Christian.
Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
— 1 Peter 3:8
Be blessed. We hope you have a wonderful long weekend with your children. Our love and prayers are with you.
