To the mums in our school - Happy Mother's Day! This morning we enjoyed celebrating the significant role mothers play in their children's lives. Thank you to the P&F and all the mums who were able to attend. A special mention to Paul and Angela B, and the Dads for coordinating this special Mother's Day Breakfast. Our School Leaders, Sarah O and Simona P, led a lovely presentation. Yesterday the Year 3 P&F reps, led by Janelle S ran the Mother's Day Stall. The children were excited to buy their mum that 'special something'. We thank everyone for their contribution.

We have added an additional date to the Term 2 Calendar. To celebrate our 140th year we are planning a School Open Day, with tours throughout the day, some that will be open for the public and some open for alumni as well. Further details coming soon.

RAHT KITS

• The NSW Government has provided our school with another supply of RAHT kits.
• These can be used if your child is displaying symptoms, or if they are deemed a household contact and need to test each morning before school.
• Your child/ren will be coming home from school today with a box of 5 RAHT kits in their school bag.
• If your child is absent today, they will receive their RAHT kits on Monday from their teacher.

HOUSEHOLD CONTACTS

If a member of your household tests positive for COVID-19, you must adhere to the following requirements, should they wish to attend school child must:

1. Notify the school (office@claremont.nsw.edu.au) that they are a household contact.
2. For those aged 12 and above, they must wear a mask at all times when indoors. For students under 12, the wearing of a mask indoors whilst they are household contacts is strongly recommended.
3. They must perform a Rapid Antigen Home Test (RAHT) each morning prior to attending school, for the entirety of household contact’s 7 day (5 school days) mandatory isolation period. You do not need to notify the school of a negative test result, only a positive result.

All students and staff are to follow NSW Health advice if they have any COVID-19 symptoms. For example, if a student has COVID-19 symptoms (including, a sore throat, runny nose, cough, or shortness of breath), they should complete a RAHT or PCR test and not attend school until they receive a negative result.

It is with sadness that we will be farewelling Miss Laura Gilbert in a few weeks time. We thank Miss Gilbert for her passion and for her musical expertise. We wish her well with her exciting future creative endeavours. Please see below some parting words from Miss Gilbert:

It has been an absolute pleasure teaching Music at Claremont. My journey here has been delightful, yet it is time for me to start a new chapter.
I hope my passion for Music and the performing arts has inspired the students to explore their creativity and be their fabulous, unique selves!

This term Mrs Alanna James will be continuing with her Acting Deputy Principal role and will also be teaching Library Literature to Year 3 and Kindergarten each Thursday. Mrs Josie Alexander will continue to teach Library Literature to the other grades on Mondays and Tuesdays, and she will be teaching Year 4 on Wednesdays to Fridays.

Year 2 - Excursion to NSW Schoolhouse, North Ryde

Year 4 - Two Cultures - Aboriginal & First Contacts Experience at Kamay Botany Bay National Park

Our next P&F Meeting will be held on Wednesday 18 May at 7:30pm in the school hall.

Next Friday 13 May the P&F will be holding a second-hand uniform sale in the school hall from 8:00am - 9:30am. Most second-hand items will be $5 except for second-hand blazers costing $20. Enter the school hall via the driveway.

IPSHA Cross Country

Well done to the 36 students who represented Claremont at the IPSHA cross country at the King’s school, Parramatta this week. The students had a great day and thoroughly enjoyed the buzz and excitement of nerves and competition as they did their best against over 120 students from schools all across Sydney in each of their races. We had some standout performances and personal bests from some students who have been putting in lots of hard work over the holidays training for the event. It was great to see the students take pride in their achievements and being able to see their hard work pay off. Congratulations to Marnie L (Year 5) - 2nd place, Mateo H (Year 4) - 6th, Connor T (7th) and Alana P (Year 4) - 15th, who will both be representing IPSHA and Claremont at the upcoming NSWCIS (NSW Combined Independent Schools) Cross Country Championships on 8 June.

Gala Days

There are a number of gala day opportunities coming up later in this term including Netball and AFL. Expressions of interest will be taken from students during class leading up to the gala days and trials will be held if needed. Please refer to the newsletter each week for updated information.

Rugby 7s

NSW Rugby Union is conducting a Rugby 7’s gala day tournament at the end of May. The event will be run in two age groups: Year 3,4 students and Year 5,6 students. If your child has Rugby experience and would be interested in competing at a Ruby 7 gala day against other schools, please fill out the following form so we can gauge if there is enough interest to enter a team in each division. We have had insufficient response to enter a team in either division so far, so please fill out the form if your child is interested.

New Graphic Novels To The Collection

This graphic novel series is perfect for fans of Dog Man! The books are written and illustrated by John Patrick Green. The series follows the super spy alligator duo called the InvestiGators as they travel through the sewers and fight the forces of evil. The sewer loving secret agents Mango and Bash use very exciting spy technology and take the reader on hilarious action packed adventures in this fun series.

Recommended for children aged 7-10 years old.

The following books are part of a series of books from Usborne Publishing that have recreated timeless stories in graphic novel format.

Swashbuckling thrills come thick and fast in this action packed graphic legend. The poor people of Nottingham find themselves at the mercy of the heartless Sheriff. Deep in Sherwood Forest a rebellion is brewing as Robin Hood and his band of daring friends pit their wits against the Sheriff.

The reader can follow Alice’s amazing adventures in this beautiful graphic novel version of Lewis Caroll’s timeless fantasy.

Both stories are retold by Russell Punter who trained as a graphic designer before entering the publishing world. He has written over seventy books for children, ranging from original rhyming stories to adaptations of classic novels. 

Both titles are recommended for children ages 7 years and older.

Orders can be placed for both recess and lunch through an online ordering system called Flexischools (www.flexischools.com.au). You can also download the app and order from any smartphone or tablet device. Orders are required to be placed by 8.30am on the day the order is required, however, you can place orders up to four weeks in advance.
