We are looking forward to you, our students coming back to School
On-Site Learning and Off Campus Learning for the Remainder of Term
The majority of students are returning to school either next week or the week after, so Off Campus Learning, in particular, will need to look different when the students return.
The Students On-Site
The students at school will of course have the benefit of their teachers working alongside them all day. We will be able to use less technology which we are sure everyone will appreciate, and focus on some of the skills that teachers found difficult to teach using Zoom. The students will be participating in assessment tasks so we can see where they are up to, and we are sure there will be a lot of collaborating in class and socialising in the playground.
Kindergarten Students will now be finishing school at 3:10pm, so they will be taken to the gates at the same time as the other students.
For the remainder of term, PE and Library Borrowing will be on the following days, while Sport will return to Wednesdays.
The Students Continuing with Off Campus Learning
With the majority of students back onsite it will be logistically impossible for teachers to be online throughout the day. However, we have worked together to come up with a plan that will enable the students at home to continue to learn, in a way that is aligned to the learning at school.
For The Infants Students:
A weekly plan will be sent home on the Friday afternoon before each week, except for next week, when the plan will be sent home on Monday morning.
This plan would include a grid on the front page that will outline which activities to complete each day. It would also include any relevant instructions, resources, worksheets, and some ideas for what to do if students finish their tasks early.
Morning check-in is at 8:45am: students can ask any questions they have for the day and so teachers can mark the roll and talk through the day along with the grade at school.
A weekly Pastoral Care check-in will occur with each family.
Students should upload photos of their work to the journal on Seesaw, and teachers will go in and make comments and provide feedback at the end of the day.
For The Primary Students:
Students check into their plan for each day prior to 8:45am, then join Zoom at 8:45am each morning, for roll marking, to hear the teachers talk about the plan for the day and to ask any questions they may have.
The students will continue their lessons in the same format as OCL and post onto platforms (GC, Seesaw, STILE etc.) as usual.
A weekly Pastoral Care check-in will occur with each family.
Feedback will be given to the questions answered at the end of the day, via comments on tasks.
PRACTICAL THINGS TO REMEMBER AS YOUR CHILD/REN RETURN TO SCHOOL
iPads, Chargers, Headphones, Books Stationery Items
All students returning, must bring their iPads (fully charged), chargers, headphones, books, stationery items and their folders. Students are to bring back all of their Library books on their first Library Borrowing Day (see above).
Car Lines
All parents are to stay in their cars when they drop off their children. Hugs and kisses are super important but please give these before your child/ren get into the car, then when you arrive at school blow a kiss and wave goodbye. It is important that you prepare your children for this, especially the younger children.
Please ensure that your child is fully dressed and ready for school before they get into the car. The students’ bags need to be where they can easily access them independently, on the seat next to them or in the front seat of the car.
We will be asking children (especially those in Years 1-6) to practise independence, by opening their own car door, getting their own things out of the car, and remembering to shut the door too.
Uniform Requirements
The official changeover date for summer uniform is Monday 25 October; therefore this coming week for Kindy and Year 1, is still a change-over week where either summer or full winter uniform is permitted.
That is:
Week 3 (Kindy & Year 1) - Winter or Summer uniform
Week 4 (All Grades) - Summer Uniform
Students should wear their PE uniforms on their designated PE days (see above - these may have changed) and on Wednesdays for Sport.
Roll Marking
Roll marking will continue at 8:45am, so any children who are still working from home must join their teachers on Zoom so their teachers know they are working from home each day.
Social Distancing on Coogee Bay Road
If you arrive or collect your child/ren on foot, please remember to socially distance on the footpath, especially while waiting to collect your child/ren in the afternoons. It is important that you are at least 1.5m away from the staff and from each other at all times.
Hand Sanitising at the Gates When Children Arrive in the Morning
We will be asking all children to hand sanitise when they arrive at school every morning. There will be staff on each gate to remind the children. We will be vigilant with the students, also expecting them to thoroughly wash their hands before and after meals, and before coming into the learning spaces, and of course the staff will be too.
---oo000oo---
Truly, we are so looking forward to the students coming back to school.
Children are a blessing and a gift from the Lord. Psalm 127:3
