Book Week 2020
Theme: Curious Creatures, Wild Minds
Dates: Term 4: October 17-23
Book Week celebrations each year are a highlight for so many, and 2020 will be no different, pandemic or not. There will however be obvious changes this year, but we will be doing all we can to ensure that the students and staff still have a memorable and fun-filled week.
The parade must go on…
Thursday 22nd, put it in your diaries. Children on the day can dress up as either a literature character of their choice OR as something connected to the theme, Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. Please note that these costumes do NOT need to be purchased. In lessons, we have been encouraging students to think outside the box and challenge their creativity with their costumes. The parade will take place in the morning session and then after Morning Tea, students will be participating in a variety of different activities all surrounding and involving literature.
There will be no book stall this year but can we encourage you, if you are thinking of purchasing books for your children, to look up the current CBCA shortlist.
Unfortunately due to current restrictions, we are unable to extend the invitation to family members and friends to come and watch and be a part of this year’s festivities. What we are planning though is for a visual presentation to be made available to all families for the afternoon.

This exciting new series of books, celebrates the inspiring stories of Australian world leading scientists and inventors.
This is an inspiring story of spirit and stamina, generosity and courage.
From defending the weak and fixing the broken to fighting for her chance to study medicine, the story of plastic surgeon and spray-on skin inventor Fiona Wood shows us the value of dreams, hard work, and having the courage to do what is right.
Fiona continues to strive to improve and evolve the treatment of burns patients. Together with her team at the Fiona Wood Foundation, and researchers and scientists around the world, Fiona is dedicated to changing what is possible when it comes to healing burns.
This story is told by Cristy Burne who is a children’s author, science writer and presenter. She has a passion for STEM, loves learning through doing, and aims to inspire creativity, daring and resilience in her readers.
At the rear of the book there is a useful burns first aid page and helpful glossary to refer to.
Munjed Al Muderis has always said his life is about ‘making a difference’. Munjed fled Iraq during the war, arriving at Christmas Island in a rickety boat. He spent 10 months living in a detention centre under very difficult conditions. Now an orthopaedic surgeon, his fascination for robotics and desire to help others led to the development of pioneering surgery where artificial limbs could be permanently attached to the human skeleton, changing the lives of amputees forever. His humanitarian work is equally impressive, and includes being an ambassador for the Red Cross and working with Amnesty International.
This inspiring story is told by award-winning Australian children’s author Dianne Wolfer.
These titles are recommended for ages 10 - 13.
