What a glorious Easter break we have had, the weather has been amazing and the rest has been appreciated. Our pre-term newsletter is planned to give you a ‘heads up’ or reminders about upcoming events this term. 

ANZAC Day Dawn Service

We would love to see as many Claremont children at the dawn service as possible, to help us to pay our respects to all of those who have served and are serving in the armed services. The Dawn Service is always a very special occasion. Our school leaders will be laying a wreath on behalf of our school community, as well as being ushers for the service.

Time: 5:30am (Gates open from 5am)
Location: Goldstein Park at Coogee Beach
What to Wear: Full School Uniform (summer or winter, depending on the weather)
After the Service: Meet Mrs James and Mrs Ford on the steps leading down to the beach, adjacent to Coogee Bay Road, as we would love to take a school photo with all of the students present.

The dates for the NAPLAN assessments are now added to the calendar.

This will begin from 16 May, with a two week changeover period.

COVID Updates

Exciting news... further easing of restrictions announced so that we can continue to plan for school events, even though we will always be diligent with hand washing, social distancing and staying home when we are unwell. See detail below. 

School Open Day

We have added an additional date to the Term 2 Calendar. To celebrate our 140th year we are planning a School Open Day, with tours throughout the day, some that will be open for the public and some open for alumni as well. Further details coming soon.

And last but not least…

This term, we will be welcoming Mr Thomas back as he will be returning from Long Service Leave, to continue his important work with the High School Expansion Project. We will also be welcoming Mrs Nicole Nunn back to cover Ms Jess King’s maternity leave. In addition, Ms Sallie Neville is taking leave for two terms to visit family in Colombia, so she is being replaced by Mrs Danielle Hillier as our School Nurse for Terms 2 and 3.

There is no school on Tuesday 26 April, as this is a Staff Professional Development Day.

This week, the NSW Premier announced the easing of restrictions for ‘Household Contacts’.

Removal of the 7 day isolation requirement for household/close contacts effective 6 pm on Friday 22 April 2022, which will be replaced with Health guidelines that require household/close contacts to:

• wear a mask in indoor settings outside of the home
• undertake daily RAHT before coming into contact with people outside the home
• work from home where possible
• avoid contact with the elderly/immunocompromised
• not visit aged care, hospitals, disability and correctional facilities unless an exemption applies

Currently, the Association of Independent Schools is working with other education sectors, and NSW Health to plan for the Winter ahead in relation to COVID, which includes planning for the flu season. This flu season is expected to be worse than in previous years. We anticipate these guidelines will broadly reflect general Health advice in relation to continuing to maintain hand hygiene and encouraging members of the community to get vaccinated against both COVID-19 and the flu.

Once we have received updated guidelines, we will communicate these and ensure our school follows all Health advice to keep our school community as safe as possible.

We will hold our annual ANZAC assembly at school on Friday 29 April, at 9.00am and we would like to invite all parents to join us for our ANZAC Service. The Junior and Senior School Choir will be performing and the School Captains and Prefects will be leading the ceremony. School photographs are scheduled to be taken by Advancedlife on Monday 2 May. Orders are now open online. This is to reduce administration and potential security issues related to the return of cash and envelopes on photo day. 

Orders for packages and sibling photographs can be placed securely online at www.advancedlife.com.au using our school’s unique 9 digit advanced order code (537 6V3 2EM) or by clicking the link above. Portrait and group package orders are due by photography day. 

Should you wish to purchase a sibling photograph online, the order must be placed no later than the day before photography day (ie Sunday 1 May). Sibling photographs will only be taken if an order has been placed.

The Term 2 Morning Skills programs commence on Monday 2 May and run for 7 weeks, finishing during the week ending Friday 17 June. 

Monday: Year 3-6 Tennis (Eastern Suburbs Tennis Centre)
Tuesday: Year 1-2 Tennis at school
Wednesday: Year 3-6 Athletics (Grant Reserve)
Thursday: Year K-2 Dance (hip hop), Year 3-6 Basketball at school
Friday: Year K-2 Football (soccer) at school

PE Lessons

Days for PE in Term 2 are as follows. Students are to wear full sports uniform, including white socks and predominantly white shoes on these days.

Mother's Day 2022 is fast approaching and our P&F will once again hold the very popular Mother's Day stall on Thursday 5 May. The Year 3 Class reps have been busy organising some wonderful gifts for students to purchase for their mums, grandmas and special friends.

Please jump onto Flexischools to make your purchases by Monday 2 May, so that your child can go shopping to choose their special gifts. Don't forget to update your child's year group on Flexischools if you haven't done so already.

The P&F warmly invites all our lovely Claremont mothers along with your children to the annual Mother's Day Breakfast. A beautiful breakfast will be served by our wonderful Claremont dads in the school playground from 8am on Friday 6 May. Please book your tickets on Flexischools by Wednesday 4 May.

Ordering

Orders can be placed for both recess and lunch through an online ordering system called Flexischools (www.flexischools.com.au). You can also download the app and order from any smartphone or tablet device. Orders are required to be placed by 8.30am on the day the order is required, however, you can place orders up to four weeks in advance.

IOUs

If for whatever reason your child does not receive a meal with the class basket, i.e. your order didn’t go through, or was put through on the wrong day etc… we offer IOUs. This will involve your child letting the teacher know they don’t have their food order, your child will need to collect an IOU form from the office. The office will call you to confirm what food to order. They can then present this to the canteen and receive their meal. This IOU will then be sent home to you to arrange payment. This can be done through the Flexischools app.
