The P&F warmly invites our lovely Claremont community to celebrate 140 years of Claremont with a Gala Dinner to be held in the ballroom at the Randwick Racecourse on Saturday 30 July. 

Our event is only 2 weeks away and we need to finalise numbers with the venue asap.

Our spectacular show will be held at the City Recital Hall, on Tuesday 30 August (6:30pm start). We will provide all the details in next week’s Newsletter.

There is no school on Monday 18 July, as this is a Staff Professional Development Day.

You would most likely be aware that our return to school will be simultaneous to the high possibility of a significant rise of COVID-19 infections, as well as ongoing flu, colds and respiratory illness. Additionally, NSW Health are anticipating this will have an impact on staffing in all workplaces across the country. With this in mind, we will continue to provide our school community with timely updates, maintain our high standards of health and hygiene practices and expectations, and ask you to not hesitate getting in touch with us if you need to discuss your family context or any concerns/questions.

As the children return to school, our safety measures will remain in place, including:

• Students and staff staying home if they are unwell, and parents refraining from visiting the school if unwell
• The wearing of face masks
• Good personal hygiene practices
• Vaccinations up to date (including flu shots)
• Ventilation of our spaces
•  Physical distancing and the consideration of how events and gatherings are held

Should this current COVID-19 wave escalate, we will update you with necessary information as it comes our way.

Year 5 & 6 - Matilda the Musical at Brigidine College

Claremont College will be participating in the world renowned ICAS competitions in Term 3. International Competition and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is developed by UNSW Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of New South Wales, with over 35 years of experience in educational assessments. 

Each ICAS assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for

recognition. Every student will receive a certificate and an online result report. Top performers will be eligible for medals. ICAS assessments are optional, and suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in a rigorous, international assessment. Your child will be presented with high quality, expert developed questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior study or revision. ICAS assessments are online, allowing greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results. 

Your child has the option of sitting ICAS assessments for English and/or Mathematics, under exam conditions at school, with sitting windows as follows: 

ICAS English - Monday 15 August, 2022, to Friday 19 August, 2022

ICAS Mathematics - Monday 29 August, 2022, to Friday 2 September, 2022

Payment and Permission Information

Each test incurs a charge of $19.25 per student. ICAS registration and payment is online and closes on Monday 1 August, 2022. Should you wish for your child to take part in one or more of these assessments, please follow the steps below:

1. Visit the online Parent Portal https://shop.icasassessments.com/pages/pps
2. Enter Claremont College’s unique access code: CQG685
3. Select the assessments your child would like to sit
4. Make a direct payment to UNSW Global

After payment is made via the Parent Payment System, you will receive an order confirmation email. Please keep this for your records. You and your child can access the results once released via the Reports Portal using the TAP ID and pin found on the back of the ICAS certificate.

Matilda the Musical at Brigidine College

Year 5 & 6 Students have been invited to a performance of Matilda the Musical, at Brigidine College on Friday 22 July from 11:30am-2:00pm. This will be an enjoyable experience for Years 5 & 6. 

It will form part of our Creative and Practical Arts program, as the children will later reflect and discuss their appreciation of the Drama and Music through the outcomes:

This will also be an opportune experience for the students to whet their appetites, in preparation for our own School Concert in Term 3.

In Visual Arts this term, Year 5 students will be weaving. Therefore, we are looking for donations of coloured wool, string, ribbon and fabric that would be suitable turned into strips.

I am excited to let you know that we are introducing a new afternoon club for children in Years 2-6. Angklung lessons will begin again next term.

There will be 8 lessons for the term, conducted by Bu Sisca who is an experienced angklung and dance teacher.

These lessons will be held in the school hall on Tuesday afternoon commencing at 3:10pm.

Also, if your child is away or will not be attending a pre-booked session, please assist by contacting Customer Service to cancel your booking on the day. Please note this has an impact on the service’s staffing for each session.

We would like to make you aware that the NSW Government has given parents a $500 voucher to use at childcare centres. This is applicable to TeamKids and we encourage you to take advantage of this great scheme. Follow the instructions on the NSW Service website to apply. Then email or bring in the QR code on your voucher so we can scan and redeem it for you. This will be credited to your account to use until June 2023.

Learn to be a chess champion! Coaching for students at Claremont College (Randwick) is held on Fridays from 8:00am to 8:40am, starting on Friday 22 July 2022.

Learning and playing chess helps children develop their logical thinking and problem solving skills, improves their concentration and focus, while also being a great source of enjoyment.

Activities include group lessons on a demonstration chess board or interactive whiteboard, puzzle solving and fun practice games.

Students earn merit awards by making checkmates, or by displaying skills and positive qualities, which all good chess players strive to develop.
