ANZAC Day holds a special place in the hearts of people across Australia and New Zealand. With each passing year, instead of fading into memory, this day continues to bring more people together. The crowds are growing, the respect runs deep, and our pride in those who have served and those who continue to serve shines brighter than ever.
Every year, our School Captains attend and lay a wreath during the Dawn Service at Goldstein Park, Coogee Beach, and many of our students attend this service or other local services in their school uniform, with their families. In addition, our Clarmont College has its own ANZAC Day service at school with parents and special guests. The students learn about the respectful traditions of ANZAC Day for Australia and New Zealand, and why it is important to pray for servicemen and women and their families.
One of the great joys of working at our school is the privilege of planning our ANZAC service each year, a tradition I have cherished for over 15 years. Sharing the meaning of ANZAC Day with our Claremont students is an honour. If our boys and girls leave Claremont understanding that ANZAC Day is a special, solemn occasion to remember those who gave so much for us, then I know I’ve helped nurture gratitude and respect in the next generation.
